Sorry about that folks. Our db server got an error writing to disk, shutdown and refused to come up with that set of files.

stuff happens, so how many servers you have over there? single point of failure? no way, really?

Shit happens, ey? Most of us work in IT so we know that, right? ;)

@DerekAlfonso We run on 5 boxes, but there are single points of failure - the db master being one of them.

Five boxes? I would've estimated more....

@mikie Of course, that makes sense. Sounds like some DB clustering is in order. With the number of records that are likely being read and written every second, I imagine that even with some pretty exhaustive attempts at real-time active/active or active/passive clustering, a sudden crash could loose a few records (inserts). You guys really are doing a great job, and Jaiku is definitively my preferred place for micro-blogging :)

Yea.. my initial response was in jest. Great service, preferred micro-blogging site and I can't wait for some Google account integration!

@thinks: your posts are still there, we just aren't displaying anything older than about a month at the moment to speed the site up, they'll be displayed again as we update our database code

  • mikie

@marilka: were those updates more than 4 weeks old?

5 months, 2 weeks ago by mikie.

  • marilka

@mikie: no, jaikus they've written today

5 months, 2 weeks ago by marilka.

  • marilka

@mikie: oh, actually, further research revealed that the actual jaikus were written more than a couple days ago, but the contact-list tooltip showed them as newer...
