We're excited about XMPP as I'm sure you know from the past. At the moment we're focusing on the App Engine port and therefore putting other features on the back-burner for the time being. But we can't wait to finish the port and following that hopefully become a good participant in the community of 'small pieces loosely joined'.
We're not giving out dates, we'll announce it on our blog when we're ready, and provide periodic status updates if discover work is taking longer than expected. We're a minuscule team so there are only so many hands to tap at keyboards :)
The connection between GTalk and Jaiku has now been re-established. We had to jump through hoops to get this fixed. Thanks to @termie for orchestrating a solution that involved multiple teams.

Oh yeah. XMPP support that stay up and instant would be awesome.
Any plans to make the public timeline available as XMPP? That would allow developers to build "Track" for jiaku just like we are using on identi.ca

For many of us, giving away the public feed via instant xmpp is the litmus test for open or closed. Looking forward to it and to a stable jaiku :)
